Deep Cleaning Lambeth Health and Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Lambeth is committed to providing professional cleaning services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, contractors and members of the public. This policy sets out how we manage health and safety across all deep cleaning and regular cleaning activities in residential, commercial and specialist environments.
We recognise our legal and moral duties to prevent injury and ill health, and to provide safe systems of work. Health and safety is an integral part of our planning, decision making and day-to-day cleaning operations.
Our Health and Safety Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who ensure that adequate resources, equipment and training are provided. Supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy on site, monitoring safe working practices and supporting staff. All employees and contractors must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
We expect everyone working with or for Deep Cleaning Lambeth to co-operate fully with this policy, follow all safety instructions and report any concerns, hazards or incidents immediately.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for our cleaning services, including deep cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning, after-builders cleaning, office and common area cleaning, and other related tasks. Risks are identified, evaluated and controlled before work begins and are reviewed when processes, products or locations change.
Where significant risks are identified, specific safe systems of work and method statements are developed. These include clear instructions on the safe use of cleaning chemicals, electrical equipment, ladders, access equipment and specialist machinery. Staff are briefed on relevant risk assessments and procedures prior to starting work at each site.
Training, Supervision and Competence
We provide all employees with appropriate health and safety induction training when they join Deep Cleaning Lambeth and refresher training at regular intervals. This includes safe handling and dilution of chemicals, correct use of personal protective equipment, safe manual handling techniques, use of machinery and emergency procedures.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring the competence of staff and providing on-the-job coaching where needed. Additional training is provided for higher risk activities such as working at height, using specialist deep cleaning equipment or working in sensitive environments.
Use of Chemicals and COSHH
Cleaning chemicals are selected and used in line with current health and safety legislation. We obtain and keep safety data sheets for all substances used. Assessments are completed to identify any hazardous properties and the control measures required to protect staff and others.
Chemicals are used only for their intended purpose, in the correct concentration and with the specified personal protective equipment. Containers are clearly labelled, stored safely and never decanted into unmarked bottles. Staff are trained in what to do in case of spills, splashes or accidental exposure.
Personal Protective Equipment
We provide suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, eye protection, aprons and safety footwear where risk assessments identify a need. Employees must use the equipment provided, look after it properly and report any defects or shortages immediately.
Personal protective equipment is treated as a last line of defence. Wherever possible, risks are reduced through safer working methods and substitution of less hazardous products before relying on protective equipment.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Many cleaning tasks involve manual handling of equipment, waste bags, furniture or materials. We assess these tasks and reduce risk by using trolleys, wheeled containers and lighter tools wherever possible. Staff are trained in safe lifting techniques, team handling and the importance of not attempting to lift items beyond their capability.
All machinery and electrical equipment used in our cleaning services is maintained in safe working order. Staff receive training before operating any machine and must not use damaged or defective equipment. Any faults or issues are reported and dealt with promptly.
Working on Client Premises
When working at client premises, we co-operate with existing site rules and safety arrangements. We agree access procedures, security measures, emergency routes and any special requirements before commencing work. Our operatives keep work areas tidy, maintain clear walkways and display signs where floors may be wet or slippery.
We take particular care when working in occupied buildings or shared spaces, ensuring that cleaning activities do not put occupants or visitors at risk. Where necessary, we schedule the most disruptive or hazardous tasks outside of normal occupancy hours.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions must be reported to management as soon as possible. We investigate incidents to identify root causes, implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence. Records of accidents and incidents are kept and reviewed regularly to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Emergency procedures, including evacuation routes and first aid arrangements, are explained to staff working at each site. Our team members are instructed on what to do in case of fire, serious injury, chemical spill or other emergency events.
Health, Welfare and Wellbeing
We are committed to protecting the general health and wellbeing of our workforce. This includes providing adequate rest breaks, drinking water, access to welfare facilities and encouraging safe working practices that reduce fatigue and stress.
Where work may involve particular sensitivities, such as exposure to allergens or biological contamination during specialist deep cleans, additional controls are put in place to protect staff and building users.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We monitor compliance with this Health and Safety Policy through regular supervision, inspections and feedback from staff and clients. Findings are used to improve our procedures, update training and refine risk assessments.
This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner if there are changes in legislation, guidance, our services or the nature of the risks we manage. Updated versions are communicated to all employees and are available to clients on request.
By working together at all levels of the company, Deep Cleaning Lambeth aims to deliver high quality cleaning services in a safe, responsible and legally compliant manner, protecting everyone who may be affected by our activities.
